Visa-free travel between Mauritius and the EU
FOR THOSE curious about the visa-free agreements between Mauritius (one of six countries, including Seychelles) and the EU, here is the official press release.
All that remain between now and the day when Mauritians will no longer have to queue at the French embassy at stupid o’clock for a visa are the signatures of the respective governments.
Indeed, the commission is pushing for the exemption to take effect as soon as the agreements are signed.
In order to make citizens benefit from the visa-free travel as soon as possible, the Commission also proposed the provisional application of the agreements as from their signature.
One of the reasons that I have not visited the rest Europe in the eight years since I have been living in the UK is the visa requirement and the costs/time involved in obtaining one. It is even easier to get entry to the US — it took a whole day but did not cost much, and the visa is valid for ten years.
Eddy.

This is why I wanted to obtain my Canadian citizenship and passport as soon as possible. Traveling to France with a Canadian passport and traveling to France with a Mauritian passport are two completely different things. I’m sad because I feel more Mauritian than Canadian :-)

Im living here in ireland for three years and i cant travel to france or Italy to meet relatives. Only eu members gets access almost everywhere so i cant understand why we mauritian cant get access to any country. we are asked fo visa. This is not fair at all. Because for them to access mauritius is easy and for us is quite immpossible. We should stand up and talk for that.

Is it possible today for a Mauritian National to travel to france without a visa?? My friend seems to think so and has booked a flight for early August

Yes, it is possible. The usual paperwork is required though. So, your friend would need hotel booking or letter of accommodation, proof of financial support, etc.

ohh thats nice! so there no chance of not obtaining the ‘permission’ to go to france? i first went to france in 2004. I got my visa without any difficulty. But when i again applied for the visa in 2006 it was rejcted.
so i would like to know if now there is still chance that i cant go to france.

Hi guys,
Having read one of Eddy’s comment – i have a question: do we need financial proof? for instance, if my mum came to visit me in the UK and I would love to take her to Paris, what kind of financial proof do I need? I am settled in the UK though I haven’t found it necessary to change my citizenship status.
Thanks.

Hi,
You still need the paperwork required if you were to apply for a visa at the embassy, namely financial means proof and planned accommodation.
