Visa-free travel between Mauritius and the EU

FOR THOSE curious about the visa-free agreements between Mauritius (one of six countries, including Seychelles) and the EU, here is the official press release.

All that remain between now and the day when Mauritians will no longer have to queue at the French embassy at stupid o’clock for a visa are the signatures of the respective governments.

Indeed, the commission is pushing for the exemption to take effect as soon as the agreements are signed.

In order to make citizens benefit from the visa-free travel as soon as possible, the Commission also proposed the provisional application of the agreements as from their signature.

One of the reasons that I have not visited the rest Europe in the eight years since I have been living in the UK is the visa requirement and the costs/time involved in obtaining one. It is even easier to get entry to the US — it took a whole day but did not cost much, and the visa is valid for ten years.
