Linux, shoes, and pictures

TRUST ME, those Linux zealots have never had to print thirty-odd pictures of shoes on a high-end inkjet printer from Linux. I suspect that if they had, they would admit that maybe Linux is just not there yet.

I have tried, and I can tell you that even the great gutenprint does not cut it. I ended up making all the prints from Mac OS X, but later found the excellent TurboPrint for Linux — sorry again, Linux zealots, it’s not open-source.

Why was I printing pictures of shoes anyway? Girls will relate. When you have so many pairs of shoes, getting ready to go out can become tedious if you have to open all the boxes to get the right ones. A simple solution is to affix a picture of the contents on each shoe-box.

Gee, a post that has something for everyone: Linux, shoe fetish, fashion tip, and photography.

  2. You can also use a database with each record pointing to a number on a box. Sheron does not have too many pairs. She says it’s a waste of money to buy too many pairs of shoes in Canada because she has so little time to wear all of them. Summer is too short. Most of the time, she wears boots.

  3. A database may be appropriate for Oprah Winfrey to manage her walk-in wardrobe but would be overkill for Pris. Besides, who would want to be looking at a computer screen in the middle of dressing up? :-) What I had in mind was a contact sheet with numbers that correspond to boxes, but Pris wanted a picture on each box.

(I’m surprised that you are finding time to blog and comment when you have Angelica and your studies to attend to.)

  4. Golden rule: respect the user’s needs and wants :-)

I’m not taking any course this coming term. That being said, I’ve been allowed to redo the final in one course and to write an essay instead of the final exam in the other. This means, I have to read the textbooks over again. I could blog and comment on Angelica simply because I was off work since December 31st and going back tomorrow. In between feeds (about 3 hours) we either sleep or do some good cleaning (which we have not done since Sheron started to have some pregancy complications). So far, Sheron has been doing to feeding at 3:00 AM and 6:00 AM. I do the 9:00 AM and noon ones. As for the rest, it depends on who has time or if we have people around. Prior to each feeding we have to change her diaper. Believe it or not, we are happy to see a dirty diaper. It means that everything is working :-)

That’s very true! You have become very philosophical pat!

  6. Clive: I have to be. I have to find something positive with changing diapers, especially when you do it three times in a row in less than one hour. Change one, feed her, change another one, burp her, and then change another one :-)
