This YouTube they speak of

SOMEONE at home is crazy about videos, and it is not me — I’m more into pictures, if you haven’t noticed. Anyway, I shot, edited, and uploaded my first today. The Flip was supposed to automate things, but the software that came with it did not work on Leopard, so I ended up making the edits and upload in iMovie. Talking about killing a fly with a shotgun…

As minor as the edits are (title overlay and frame removal), I am quite pleased with them. I was skeptical about the odds of getting 175MB AVI files onto YouTube, but there appears to be some black magic going on somewhere between iMovie and YouTube that makes this happen.

The videos won’t win awards, but the ten-minute sega-thon might. Enjoy.

And, part two.

What a beautiful day

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

ONE OF the coldest of the month, yet a great day for a photo-walk along the bank of The Thames. The tide was quite high and fast, and the water muddy, which complemented the rest of the landscape.

I find these lunchtime photo-walks very relaxing, especially when I need a break from a difficult problem at the office. I like that the river is just a short walk from the office, yet makes me feel like miles away when I am there on my own.

Foray into 35mm film development

I STARTED doing my own C-41 film development last week. The colours came out very off, which I attributed to me missing a few seconds at the beginning of the developer phase of the process — the most crucial moment.

Anyway, after a bit of playing around with GIMP, here is a before-after combination.

And, here’s the C-41 development kit.

I Shoot Film

I STARTED shooting film recently with a Nikon SLR. When the camera was delivered, it had a roll of ASA 400 film in it, which gave me the opportunity to check that it was working. This is one of the shots. Colours are a bit off, but what can you expect from film that has an expiry date of 1987?

I Shoot Film is also the name of a Flickr group for those who shoot flim.
