Making yourself understood
PRIS and I want to send some A4-size photo prints to Mauritius and have bought hard-back envelopes for this purpose. But, based on what we have seen before, we are not convinced that the postmen in Mauritius will be obliged by the “PLEASE DO NOT BEND” labels on them.
Inspired by this graffiti, I am thinking of adding my own touch to the envelopes, something along the line of “PA PLIYE SA, TA KOSON” (hover to translate), but Pris thinks it would be a bad idea :-)

That type of problem is not unique to Mauritius. I know for sure that in France if they see “Fragile” on the box, they will start throwing the parcel here and there. If they see “This side up,” they will rotate the parcel. I personally know someone who was a Post Office employee in France. I am sure other post office employees around the world have this kind of “fun” too. That being said, I don’t know if the rules and regulations in France says that the French Post Office is not responsible for damaged to parcels and that a different service should be used for fragile parcels.
I recently watched a documentary on “How the Post Office works?” Most of the mail is handled by machines and therefore the risk of the photos sustaining damage is higher than if the mail was handled by human beings, a bit like suitcases on conveyor belts in airports.

Just like Priscilla, I would advised against putting that line on the envelopes as this will increase the chances of them being folded :-)

I agree.
Faced by the slug brained dim wittedness, I feel a cure to lack of professionalism would be a massive injection of fear.
like a booby-trapped envelope which would blow their hands off if folded.

AS my mother says, some people like it rough. Except she says it with words that are too vile for this blog. She’s an interesting woman, my mother.
Regarding the bad experiences I mention in passing, I have seen mail thrown over the gate into my yard because they would not fit in the letter-box. This would be acceptable under certain circumstances, but certainly not when the postman is aware that it has rained and the ground is wet.
