THIS IS the latest pre-release of the Envy Code R Preview 7 font, generously provided by its author Damien Guard. It is my favourite font for coding thanks to its clarity and legibility.

In this latest version, the font is even better thanks to the reduced height and optimisation of some glyphs, such as the comma sign. The only minor hindrances I can see in this release are the bold “m” glyph appears blotched and the bold “i” glyph is biased to the left. In the previous versions (see below), the bold “i” was alright while the “m” was too thin.

The release of Preview 7 is due any time soon now according to Damien. I hope he has time to fix the bold “m” and bold “i” before then. It would bring the font one step closer to being perfect.

Watch out, Pragmata!

Why Mauritius needs better toilet paper

In Mauritius, cheap really means cheap

THIS MORNING I thought once again about the things that make me want to rush back to England after I have experienced Mauritius for a couple of weeks.

Take toilet paper, for example. Two squares of cheap generic-brand toilet paper in England can achieve what would require almost half a roll of the best toilet paper (Softex, Kleenex, or Prad Paper Products) you can find in Mauritius. You would be prepared to pay good money for quality, and you would not get it.

Unfortunately, this blunt example reflects too well other aspects of life in Mauritius: public service, infrastructure, law and order, security, education, and health service.

There is a shit-load of cleaning-up to do to put things right in Mauritius, but a roll of politicians of mediocre quality is all there is for the job.

Eddy.

Are you nuts!?

FREE nuts from the office vending machine. But, there’s a catch: they’re past their sell-by date.

Someone noticed and felt smart :-)

No such thing as bad karma…

Wednesday, 2 April 2008 20:04 GMT

… JUST a load of people annoyed with me. And, it looks like I have pissed off the big man Himself.

  • Garden fence blown down by gales.
  • Sick with diarrhoea and fever on the second week in Mauritius while doing 12+ hours a day to meet a deadline.
  • Project deadline missed anyway.
  • Crashed loaned car in a pile-up in Mauritius.
  • Soiled clothes with vomit left on seat and belt on our flight back. Upgrade to upper class offered, but no adjacent seats for Pris and myself forced us back to Economy.
  • Smallest pay-rise ever, so small I could spend it all on a pizza.

Well, at least, memories of this day cheer me up.
