Ignore hardware upgrade and save money on mobile contract

Wednesday, 27 February 2008 20:59 GMT

MY Vodafone contract ended a couple of months ago, but I renewed it only today. I ignored the proposed hardware upgrade and saved about GBP 200 for the length of the new contract by asking to have my line rental charge lowered instead.

This is a considerable saving if you are not after a new phone, the upgrade options are not appealing, or you would rather look elsewhere for your next phone.

  1. Too right, these mobile phone upgrades can be such a rip-off sometimes. Same for the contracts themselves if one is not careful enough.

  2. You can still get nice deals, though, if you are prepared to take a brand new contract with a new number. Last year, we signed up to Vodafone via Phones4U. Thanks to their cash-back scheme, what we paid at the end of the contract was practically peanuts, especially since we got one of the latest phones with it.
